Press Release
SURTECO takes an important step towards optimizing its production network following the Süddekor integration
- Decor printing activities are concentrated at the Buttenwiesen site following the integration of Süddekor
- Implementation of measures to 2016
- Significant synergies at the cost level - focus on personnel management with social compensation scheme
Buttenwiesen-Pfaffenhofen, 7 May 2014 -SURTECO SE - one of the leading manufacturers of decorative surface materials - announces roll-out of the first strategic measures for integration of the Süddekor Group, which was taken over at the end of 2013. The Board of Management has decided to concentrate the decorative printing activities of the SURTECO Group at the Buttenwiesen site and to transfer the printing section of Plant I of Süddekor GmbH, Laichingen, there. The laboratory facilities will also be transferred there. The paintwork division of Süddekor GmbH (Plant II in Laichingen) and Dakor Melaminimprägnierungen GmbH, Heroldstatt, are not included in the resolution.
"Since the sales structures have already been harmonized following the takeover of Süddekor, the focus is now on optimization of our production network," commented Chairman of the Board of Management of SURTECO SE, Friedhelm Päfgen.
The transfer of printing activities is to be introduced promptly and implemented by 2016. This will enable substantial costs to be saved. The move will safeguard production in Germany over the long term while also providing an efficient counterweight to increasing competitive pressure. The administrative and central functions which are necessary for operation of
Plant II will remain in Laichingen while all other operations will be concentrated in Buttenwiesen.
A concept is being worked out together with the employee representatives to implement these measures. The objective is to give the maximum number of employees from Laichingen a job at Buttenwiesen located roughly 100 kilometres away. Where job losses are unavoidable the company will make arrangements for a social compensation scheme.
This concentration of operations on a single site has already delivered tangible improvements for customers who have been supported by sales from a single source since the beginning of March under the Group logo "SURTECO Decor". Harmonization of the colour, engraving and printing standards will optimize speed of delivery and flexibility to a very high level of quality.
