Buttenwiesen-Pfaffenhofen, 10 August 2012 - SURTECO SE, leading manufacturer of surface materials based on plastics and technical papers for the international construction and furniture industries, generated sales of EUR 210.9 million in the first half-year of 2012 and was therefore at the level of the equivalent year-earlier period amounting to EUR 211.6 million. Sales in the domestic market eased by 1 %, whereas foreign sales remained constant. The share of foreign sales in total sales rose by one percentage point to 68 %.

The Strategic Business Unit Plastics increased sales by 2 % to EUR 122.2 million during the first six months of the business year. The paper segment achieved sales of EUR 88.7 million (-3 %).

In the first two quarters, the operating result (EBITDA) of the SURTECO Group amounted to EUR 26.5 million (-16 %). Earnings before tax (EBT) decreased by 9 % to EUR 11.5 million. The fall was essentially due to the ongoing high costs for raw materials and from a provision for restructuring amounting to EUR 1.7 million. The cost of materials ratio increased by 0.5 percentage points to 46.5 % by comparison with the equivalent period in the previous year.

Consolidated net profit after the first six months of the business year came to EUR 7.8 million (2011: EUR 8.1 million). Earnings per share amounted to EUR 0.70 (2011: EUR 0.74) based on 11,075,522 no-par-value shares.
