Buttenwiesen-Pfaffenhofen, 12 May 2011 - SURTECO SE, leading manufacturer of surface technologies based on plastics and papers for the international construction and furnishing industries, generated sales of EUR 108.0 million, taking the Group 20 % above the volume for the first quarter of the corresponding year-earlier quarter. Growth was achieved in the German market (+16 %) and in foreign markets (+21 %). The share of foreign sales in total sales went up by one percentage point to 66 %. The Strategic Business Unit Plastics closed the first quarter of the year with sales amounting to EUR 60.6 million (+15 %). The paper segment achieved sales of EUR 47.4 million (+27 %).
During the first quarter of 2011, the operating result (EBITDA) of the SURTECO Group amounted to EUR 18.2 million (+20 %). Earnings before tax (EBT) increased by 8 % to EUR 8.7 million. The lower percentage increase in EBT compared with EBITDA was due to a further impairment on a package of shares held by SURTECO in Pfleiderer AG, Neumarkt, amounting to EUR 1.3 million.
Consolidated net profit after the first three months of the business year amounted to EUR 5.6 million (2010: EUR 5.3 million). Earnings per share were EUR 0.50 (2010: EUR 0.48) based on 11,075,522 no-par-value shares.
